Swear filter

Postby Dave » Thu Feb 13, 2014 8:04 pm

Please get rid of it, it's ridiculous. K N O B is an item, they can be found on chokes, cookers, electrical items. N O B is the spelling for a male appendage or the inventor of the swear filter.

I agree. I understand the reason behind banning swear words but banning "knob" seems a bit stupid to me. Also, can't you choose replacement words a bit better as sometimes it's hard to understand what the hell someone is talking about if they say "shit" and it changes it to neco. :|

The filter was initially brought in due to some very dubious political posts and folk forgetting that we are a scooter forum and not some national front supporting defence league of whatever. It was a necessary evil to get everything back on an even keel.

It was also brought about due to complaints from members.

I didn't respond initially to this thread as I wanted to see the popularity or unpopularity of the topic. Not too many replies and nothing too startling.

So, word censor, for the majority has been turned off.

don't really see the need for some of the language that is used in some of the posts, but I also don't really agree with a nanny like overseeing of the forum, we should be able to self monitor the way in which we put our points over.
That said some of the posts would not be the same without the odd profane addition
I would say, let it run and see where it goes Tony. ;)

Matter of opinion I would say,but was used in the broad sense didn't mean that the moderators were being used as nanny's.

If it wasn't for the filter we would never have seen one chap use the term "ladies genitalia" instead of the more vernacular term.... For this reason alone it should stay,,, come on chaps, let's use our imagination,,, makes some of the posts much more entertaining ... Those who disagree are just a load of self gratifiers. .

It's possibly gone too far now the swear filter, I know I added a couple words just for a laugh to see if anyone noticed. We still need to keep one as it reduces the amount of hits the site gets with reference to sexual or abusive searches on google etc.

If Tony or any of the others haven't already reviewed the list then I'll take a look.
