How-To Guides section?

Postby Ginger Phil » Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:46 pm

There's loads of really useful how-to guides on this forum yet they all get loast after a few weeks of inactivity. How about a whole section purely devoted to these guides so if people need to know how to do a certain job they can jump straight to the topic? :)

The problem is who decides what is useful, what we probably need is to make more use of the search feature:
http://www.lmlocgb.co.uk/phpBB3/search.php
Other wise someone has to decide then move or tag, that could be a lot of work!

I use the search all the time but if a word is too common like Oil then it wont give you any results.

yeh, we should have an easy section, full of "stickys", posts that are there all the time that dont allow any additions.....

if we had a "how to" section then we can refer to them when new members post questions that have "been posted to death"....

over to "the man that can "

With the advanced search I got three pages of info on indicators, and considering the amount of posts on them I dont think that is to bad.
This was the search I did:

What you could do is if somebody posts something very useful halfway through a topic a moderator/admin could copy the info then paste it into a new topic in the How-To Guides section then give credit to the O.P.

It wouldn't be much work as hardly anyone posts anything useful. Joke, by the way!!

I still think stickys are a good idea .

Maybe Tonys first service post , one on de-restriction maybe that massive one from months ago, one on indicator problems , one on tyres , one on oils.

Think that covers most bases.

Only problem is this forum would be very very quiet if it was for people asking the same questions over and over again

Hi Guys,

Check-out my reply to Lauries ID Card Post. This has cropped up before. The thing to do is to plagiarize and combine the posts for each subject, Title and add them to the Workshop section on the Homepage and direct any "How do I's" to it. We are nearly a year old now and have got some good info' to go with. If some of the regular advice-givers agreed to choose their specialist subjects they could compile a "How to Section" so good it would make other clubs green with envy.

Hi Tony,

Can you guys decide yourselves. Start a new Topic in this Board "How-To Guides List" and say something like, Tony here, my speciality is...and I'm writing it up for the Homepage.

Cheers, Paul
