DIY Merchandise 2

Postby Administrator » Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:46 pm

Evening All,

This is getting a bit off-topic re Lazers original post!

At the moment I pay for the site. I have just paid for this, the second year. I don't mind because I wouldn't do it if I did and I'm not trying to be everyone's friend or a LML hero.

We are lucky to have the services, free of charge, of the Webmaster who is an IT professional. This is because I help him with any minor engineering issues that arise in his business, free of charge.

Thru the Webmaster, we receive all our Server costs etc - at 'trade prices', hence it is fairly cheap.

At the moment we only have @500 members and I doubt if anyone is going to sponsor us with advertising, albeit I will stand corrected on this - I know members have suggested it in the past. However I would hope that by the third year, we are in a position to try for sponsorship, just to cover costs. My own personnal dislike of many sites are the flashing Banners of Advertisments.

Also, I dislike sites that display membership "rank". As far as I am concerned, everyone is an equal member, just some contribute more than others.

I feel that any sub's would kill the site virtually overnight, we are just not that big at the moment and Pia - Snake in the Grass - gio's latest stunt may knock us back, but that's upto LML and Barrus to counter.

I know the site needs modernising and making more appealing to young people. It's just time and getting together with the Webman. One reason we have a seperate Homepage on Wordpress, is that it is fairly secure. More of that on another post update.

I hope this sorts things a bit, but any suggestions are welcome or send a P/M

Cheers, Paul

If costs ever come into it try changing server hosts. I run a Peugeot scooter forum and for about 4 years I used a company called Qiq who only charge £25 a year. :o I never had any problems and the speed was pretty good - no different to any other forum. I only recently changed as a member said he's host us for free and add loads of other bits to make it more modern looking. http://www.qiq.co.uk/hosting.php

Hi,
You guys keep up the good work too. As well as the Technical interest, you can't believe the way reading some of the replies to posts brings a smile to my face after a day at work. Playing 'The Who', "The Ultimate Collection" at the mo. Just got to the 3 tracks from "Quadrophenia". 2 bottles of Theakston's O.P.

I would like to agree with brother All and propose that this be entered into the minutes of the upcoming bi-annual extra ordinary executive meeting as a positive endorsement of the LMLOCGB by its members and affiliates brothers and sisters.
Power to the people.

Would anybody be interested in some small URL stickers? A mate makes them for two of my three scooter forums:

The only problem with this address is it looks a bit like gobbledegook :D

They'd be about a quid each posted. I think I'll get one done for my scoot when I get it back but I could get a few made up if anyone was interested.
