Chat Room ?

Postby Tony » Mon Mar 22, 2010 3:04 pm

Hi Folks

Quick question to the Powers That Be .................

Now that we have a decent membership there are a few nights when there are lots of us "online" at the same time. Is there any way we can stick a chat room on the forum ? Even if it was just, say, open one night a week. To talk sh@t and scooters alike. Shoutbox or shoutmix seem to the programmes that other sites use, just as a suggestion like.

What do you all think ??? Means you can have a bit of banter and still post/reply to posts as well. ;)

Love the chat room idea - not Facebook though.

We should keep it on this site and it will get plenty of takers.

Gotta say guys... I've ran a few forums/on-line clubs in my time. The more posts on the site the more people will wanna join the "club". I've had chat room sections running, but always found them to reduce posts on the site. My experience leans towards just having a section on the forum called something along the lines of "General Chit Chat" and allow the mumbers to use this as a chat room (Each post being a new room, members just have to hit refresh to update as people post). In the forum skins I've used you can usually set a "delete topics after..." duration. I'd usually set this for the chit chat forum to 30days. It just keeps people using the forum and keeps it popular. And with human nature as it is... you can read other peoples conversations if you're that nosey.

Chat rooms work really well on well established forums where there's 100s of regular users, but on smaller club sites are usually detrimental to the forum.

Just my experience there.

Thanks for that Geezer.

A new Forum Board for General Chit-chat, not necessarily Scooter related, is what I had in mind and hopefully, by this weekend it will be up and running and I was also thinking of another, based on similar, "this tape will self-destruct after a few weeks", re Buy & Sell - LML or other Sooters, parts etc, private sales only, no Dealers.
