About time

6 points and a 200 quid fine for anyone using their phone at the wheel. Long over due if you ask me.

Should've made it 500 quid with a 1 year automatic ban if caught a 2nd time. There would be people still alive today if not for the cnuts that do this.

Yes, about time for sure.. and also I agree it should be a more serious penalty for 2nd offence.

In Australia there's a roughly equivalent fine ($433) and loss of 4 points. Personally I don't think the points loss is enough. I'd like to see a 2nd offence result in licence suspension as well. They've done plenty of studies which show talking on a phone or txt'ing seriously compromises driving ability. A $433 fine is like nothing to a lot of people. They don't learn the lesson until something goes horribly wrong.. and then it's just too late isn't it?
If nothing's going right.. go left.

Sounds good until you figure out there's bugger all police presence on the roads due to govt cuts :o . Nobody to catch them :(

Actually I got done for this.

I was parked in a bay outside a Tesco Express on Christmas eve back in 2008. Wife popped in to get a couple of last minute bits. Handbrake on, engine running keeping the windows demisted. My phone rang, looked at it. Was work so I didn't answer. Tap tap on the window. Would you like to get out of the car sir? Two Police officers peering in on foot then a total of 5 police cars and six officers to give me a ticket for looking at my phone! None of them had a ticket book so they kept calling more and more cars to the scene. Locals all thought I was a drug dealer or murderer. Then I had to listen to a lecture, independently given by each officer on the dangers of using a phone whilst driving. I wasn't f'king driving!

Operating a hand held device whilst in control of a motorised vehicle. I was parked FFS! (Technically the keys were in the ignition so I was in control)

Actually the worst part was my car insurance on a 1.3 Maestro going from £290 to £850 due to ticket coding translating as dangerous driving (I wasn't even driving).

I sit in traffic all the time and watch everybody around me texting, and yes I feel the Police got the wrong person.

Had a bad experience with the police long ago because some twat got stopped for drink driving and gave my name. Got pulled one day while out on the scooter. Told me I was nicked for driving while disqualified. I'm well "what the f*ck are you on about? I don't drive and have never owned a car!!! You've obviously got the wrong person". Had me partially strip at the side of the road to look at my tats and said he hadn't made any mistake, knew my name, dob, address, knew what tattoos I had and where before I even showed them. It was obviously someone who knew me well. Never found out who though.

Had to go through 2 visits to the station for ID purposes, 3 court appearances and all the while banned from driving until it got sorted. That took another 6 months.

On another occasion I got chewed out by a rabid motorbike cop for...wait for it.....going 55 in a 60 zone. Apparently I was holding the traffic up because I was sat in the right hand lane. Tried to explain to him I was coming up to the lights to make a right turn. C*nt wasn't having it and told me he would "do me" if he caught me doing it again.

Some of em are pricks.

Lol It was a "Special" Maestro registered on a 51' plate (Bulgarian ex government import) also had raised suspension, looked kinda cool. Possibly the youngest Maestro in the country! :D

Ye I'm the same. Owned every Ford and Vauxhall model made between 1970 and 1985. Currently suffering a H120 powered Humber Sceptre. Wish I kept that JPS Capri, and also wish I hadn't given away my old Escort Mexico cos it needed a windscreen for its MOT. :o
