I sort of consider our election results not too different than what you folks in the UK have/are going through.
The public, yours and ours are tired and outraged at our respective folks in power trying to be the worlds best buddy......on the public's dime (or Pound).
Trump won because we (yep I voted for him) are tired of putting lawyers (you know, those bloodsuckers we all despise....never made an honest living) in positions of power.
Time to run a country as a business.....quit writing rubber checks, take care of the citizens by creating jobs and reducing the free bees (entitlement).
The gun thing is a cute place to put yourself on a podium for (appeals to the snivelers) but the realities are it isn't going to change.
The general consensus is 'A Armed Society is a Polite Society'. Tends to keep a government from becoming totalitarian.
That aside, we have a medical care system that is IMO, out of control from a financial standpoint. The Affordable Care Act ( known as Obama Care, actually Ted Kennedy's program) is turning out, as the pundits predicted, to be unaffordable to those it was supposed to help.
There are a few elements of it that may be salvageable, but it needs a serious overhaul......and quickly.
And then there is NAFTA......the countries that can be (and were) self sufficient by producing their own goods are, because of the program, all becoming consumer nations as opposed to producer nations.
Until there is a Tariff balance, NAFTA cannot work.
NAFTA and health care are the two primary items in Trumps gunsights (get the irony? Gunsight?)
Next is illegal immigration......something you folks should (I Hope) be giving serious thought to as well.
Our system is designed around a legal method of immigration that is designed to welcome those who wish to embrace this country, but is currently being poorly enforced.
The public is being asked (and forced) to pay for those folks entering the country.
Just like things on your side of the pond, we too have lots of things that have to be addressed.
Had Hillary (known as Hitlary over here) been elected we would once again have someone who has never actually had a job, always been on the public dime, with a law degree and a trainload of failures in her past, leading us into the same old, same old.
Should be a wild four (or eight) years and If things start looking up I hope you folks get some of the benefit as well......otherwise, we go down in flames together.
