Pillion use on a 125cc 2t?

Postby Lusciousthelock » Sun Mar 13, 2016 3:04 pm

Hiya,

I can't wait to get my LML in April then getting it de-restricted to make it more capable. What is the best set up for carrying a pillion on a 125cc 2t? I would like to keep the scooter as a 125cc (So I can teach the kids when they're ready) but fear the little LML will struggle with me at 14st and the wife at 9st? I know it won't be fast, but I would like to be able to ride across town safely with a bag of shopping?

I once rode my 1980 Honda H100a 11hp (100cc 2t) with my wife as a pillion to Stonehenge and back on a boring Sunday (around 250miles). Couldn't feel my arse for a month though, so it must be doable

I just want to know if full de-restriction would be enough?

Up it to a 150 5 port with a simonni exhaust. Mine goes like a P200. Cheers

Trouble is, I would like to teach my kids on it in a year or so, so I would rather keep it as a 125 albeit at strong as possible. Do the LML's still have a crank issue when used with 150 cylinders or was that all rumour's?

The crank issue would occur even if kept standard .The 150 conversion would be "invisible" if you did "forget" to re-register it.Or you could simply revert it back to the 125 top end. The crank issue shouldn't be an issue on a new bike.Cheers

My derestricted 125 2t did okay with me (13st) and the wife (8 or 9st), but there are no hills to speak of around here which helps of course. Upgrading to 150 made a big difference though, but it was manageable without.

How about salad 3 times a day for 3 months?

Mate, seriously though my PX125 used to pull me and my mate Dave to rallies with considerable ease and that was a weight load of 32 stone!

Just be sensible with the gears and dont do strain. Just knock it down one.

Just to be a bit left-field, for the price of a 150cc kit you could probably pick up a ratty but running Vespa/LML and your wife could ride that instead. An your kids could learn on the ratter rather than wrecking your paintwork.
