warning about insurance included breakdown

Postby rob h » Tue Feb 21, 2017 1:10 pm

Just about to renew my scoot insurance, asked a question on the included breakdown. It has a clause " recovery to the nearest garage up to 20 miles", i asked on my way to whitby or scarb if I breakdown what is the point to be taken within 20 miles to a garage on the moors that has no spares, or knowledge. basically you then have to negotiate onward home travel at your own expense!!! Also watch this voluntary excess, i removed it and it made no difference to the quote, they are already screwing you 200 fixed excess! Why give them more to screw you for voluntarily.
The insurance was fully comp £120, got a quote from Swinton and Bennets, same cover for around £85 with no voluntary excess. Their breakdown cover separate £34. I am waiting to check their small print.
As a vespa/lml owner never used it always managed a repair, as a Lambretta owner it was a definite although only properly broke down once. But I would never ride distance without it.
