Correct spark plug

Postby phil23 » Tue May 02, 2017 1:53 pm

Afternoon All
Serviced the scooter yesterday for the first time since I've had it. The spark plug that it came with is a NGK B9ES, the spare that also came with it is a NGK B8ES, both from what I can tell by looking through the forum. When riding the scooter it does feel as though it's happiest when on full, or near full throttle. Any other time it feels it miss firing a bit. there is a Mallossi 166 kit fitted along with a Mazzucchelli crank and a SIP exhaust.

So, could any of the learned members please advise as too which plug I should be using.

Many thanks

Just trolled through a load of posts about spark plugs. My conclusion is to fit the B8ES plug as I do 40 mile a day to and from work. Is this a good plan???.

My concern is the 8 has a longer thread, is it possible to hit the piston?..... might be a daft question but I don't want to ruin the engine in a blink of an eye......

My early type malossi 166 ran short reach plug, 7hs round town, 8hs on a run but don't know about the latest kit. Yes you could damage the piston with the wrong reach plug.

Hey Phil, do you have a 150 5 port set up? That would require the longer ES type plug (in mine i normally run an 8ES or a 7ES).

If you have the standard 125, then you would want a HS plug, with the shorter reach as jock11 mentioned.

Not sure about requirements for other kits.
