P200 engine in Stella/Star frame

Postby stilts » Fri Dec 02, 2016 4:09 pm

Last weekend I put a post1979 p200 into a 2005 Stella/Star 2T 150 frame (one yellow wire stator). The LML rectifier is still in place.

As it stands, it runs fine, but electrics are all on AC power which is not ideal for me.

The wires for the p200 CDI are hooked up properly. The current setup coming from the stator > Stella loom for the electrics is:

BLACK > black (ground)
YELLOW > spliced to black
PURPLE > yellow (power to rectifier)
RED > spliced to purple

Any help would be appreciated aside from totally rewiring the bike with a p200 wiring loom and a new rectifier.

Why not use an lml stator? Then the wiring is plug and go.

I built my p200 LML like that from new, new LML Toscana, and new piaggio Motor, albeit fitted with LML stator, 6yrs ago, still going strong, perfect ;)

I don't have an LML stator in front of me (old engine still at friend's house), but doesn't it have that weird backplate that sticks out on top of the stock flywheel? Does it not interfere with the working of the flywheel on the p200? If not the stock stator would be ideal.

Apologies if there is such an issue with some stators, certainly not mine. Using the LML stator and wiring gives it the factory look, and tbh has been without fault

I'm getting the engine back sometime this week, I'll see what the stock stator I have looks like. Its possible there is some difference between the US and Euro versions of the engine?
