LED flasher relay

Postby sharpcroft » Wed Feb 12, 2014 3:46 pm

Question to the sparky guru's.
I've got a couple of these in the rear indicators http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221338449681?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
They are fecking bright but the flash rate isnt right now, they seem to flash slower but are also never completely off when flashing? During what should be the "off cycle" they flicker very fast (dimly), im guessing that it because the mixture of led's in the back and standard bulbs in the front is screwing with the flasher relay. I know you can get relays for LED's which i believe work using an electronic flasher circuit rather than a mechanical one, question 1 is can these type of relays be used with a mixture of LED's and standard bulbs to cure the above problems, question 2 is which 3 pin relay do i use for the standard (albeit with led's) a/c indicator circuit?
Im trying to wrap my head around the wiring diagram and original relay pin outs but cant fathom it?
All the 3 pin led flashers on ebay have a + pin, a - pin and a load (bulb) pin but the lml one seems to have a + pin, a load pin and a load 2 pin, is this just different labelling of the same thing?
Can someone point me in the direction of a suitable 3 pin LED compatible a/c flasher relay

Cheers

Right, i tried one of the led's in the front as well (too big for the housing but i wanted to prove a point), as you can see from the video the front led behaves perfectly, the rear flashes and flickers in-between flashes, i've got a feeling it could be down to the buzzer as its when the buzzer sounds that the rear led flickers, could this still be down to not having an LED flasher relay?
Am i correct in assuming that the original relay is wired to have 1 x power in (from regulator) and then 2 x power out, 1 for the rear indicator circuit and 1 for the front indicator circuit (i know the front and back flash alternately), if this is so can someone confirm which wire does the front and which does the rear (on the relay), can i swap them to see if the fault transfers from the rear to the front?

I've done a bit of playing around.
I've just done the DC indicator conversion using the 2 pin flasher relay with built in buzzer as mentioned elsewhere on here, disconnected the original buzzer, tapped into the purple wire on the regulator (i made some mini looms up so all original wiring is still there and its a simple job to swap back), joine the front and back indicator circuits (using a piggie back connector again so its easy to revert) the led's now work and flash perfect.
7.5w led's in the back as listed in the above post (fecking bright) and standard bulbs in the front coupled with a standard DC 2 pin relay, happy days.

Oh, i now have 2 of the above led's spare as they dont fit the front, £10 + p&p if anyone wants them

Fecking bright and they draw 1/3 the current of the original bulbs, below is a quick pic, led on the left, standard on the right,

If anyone wants to tackle this, here is a quick sketch of the parts needed to make this a simple "plug and play" mod that is easy to reverse.
